It’s My Goddamned Day Off

By  ·  November 22nd, 2008

Oh, I love me some widgets.  Go look there in my sidebar, scroll down to the tags section…  How frickin’ sexy is that??  Wordpress users, get it here.  Thanks to commenter criticalthinker on that, I noticed it whirling around in his sidebar.

Oh, yeah, also registered the domain “happyfunanger.com” just in case the creator of comic character Liberty Girl decides to C&D me.  *hides*

  1. ‘scuse me but this has that open thread look, so I’m ripping you off and cross-posting my own comment from over @ Rachel’s:

And I now have an EXTREMELY FUCKING IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT to make

This just in: Girlchild and boyfriend inform me of their own intent to marry on 31 December. Other details are sketchy. They had penciled in his boss’s daughter to officiate, the problem being she herself is hugely pregnant. The reception may end up taking a whole table at Chin’s Szechwan in Escondido.

This is probably not going to change much. Or will it? Female voice just heard emanating from the next room, “No, I want you to clean up after yourself!” ROFLMAO!!! First time I’ve heard that, though Girlchild and I already grumbled at each other about tools neither of us left lying about on the lawn.

  3. I got about that same reaction over @ Rachel’s. I mean, almost exactly so many words. I’m happy about it, if for no other reason, because I’ve decided to be so. Something positive to look fwd to, anyway. I resolve to not even mind buying them a wedding. Of course, they’re planning cheap. Uh-huh. Many weddings start off that way. Robert Fulghum observes that weddings never get smaller or stay in budget.

  4. nnTG:
Would you like me to have a chat with your G-child? I am a very vocal anti-wedding advocate (especially ones that cost a fortune and make everyone crazy with stress and aggravation) ….

My husband and I eloped (much to the very vocal dismay of our families, fortunately we are selfish enough to avoid feeling any guilt about something that is all about us…) We went away for a week, stayed at a B&B and got married. Our wedding day was without a doubt the most stress-free day in wedding history. The whole she-bang cost us $5 grand. Which we paid ourselves.

I’d be happy to give her some pointers.

  6. @nntg: Congrats! As to the wedding plans, one of my close friends took his wife to Jamaica and eloped. Total cost was only a couple grand, and they had the time of their lives.

To everyone else, I hope you’re having a great weekend!

Does anyone know if you can do the topic cloud thingy on Blogger? I’m not well-versed on html stuff.

  7. @jana: Mister Liberty Girl and I married at a botanical garden, music provided by a violin and a cello, with dresses handmade by a teeny little oriental lady, the men in tuxes with the clan tartan cummerbunds and tams, gorgeous flowers, finger foods and bride’s/groom’s cakes under pavilions…all for right around 5K. It was, by all accounts, a gorgeous wedding.

So it can be done, just have to find the small craftsman type suppliers who provide a beautiful product for a fair price.

  8. @jana: So go get ‘em! Click the COPY ME option in the countdown to get it. The cloud, you may be SOL. Right click on it to see the author’s page, I know it’s available for some other platform I’m but betting it ain’t blogspot.

WordPress is dead easy to set up on your own hosting account. Sure, it is not then free, but the flexibility is worth it.

  11. nntGlenn … you have to remember that it was the weekend … and some of us that desire to live away from cities have crappy POTS interweb connections, so we seldom bother to try and read “our” blogs then.
Weddings CAN be a good thing … BUT … one can have too much of a good thing, yes? My wife has 3 sons … and their marriages are a constant topic of conversation … unfortunately mostly sad conversations. But one can hope for the best. I’ll cross my fingers for your girlchild.

LG, that tag cloud looks kewl … but I’d have to break down and rework a whole new theme for my blog … since mine is pre-widget. And I’m not really sure I’ll ever find the time to pound more posts into my schedule … so a cloud would be pretty wispy, LOL.

  12. @pete in Midland: This sorry-ass theme is pre-widget, too. Plugin writers almost always include the direct-call tag, as does this one. But yeah, you gotta have tags. And posts.

  13. Oh, and LG …. one plugin you might want to look at is Easy Gravatars … kinda neat allowing folks to use a single avatar “everywhere”

  14. @pete in Midland: WP 2.6+ has integrated gravatar-showing capacity. They show the avatar that’s associated with your email address.

  15. LG … I never noticed, although I try to keep up with the latest versions of WP …. maybe the fact that I have Easy Gravatars running superceded that functionality. If the tag cloud widget is also a plugin … I’ll have to take a look, I admit it does look pretty kewl.

  16. LOL … I clicked on the link you provided and the wacko work filter stopped it … category “sex”. D’oh … what part of WordPress, or “wp-cumulus-released” is “sex”. OK, it looks cool … but sexy??
