Here Endeth the Lesson

By  ·  February 16th, 2009

Now here’s some fuckin’ change I can believe in:

Folks irked by Obama coins that are simply stickers placed on 50-cent pieces.

If you stop, just for a second, and think about it…it’s kind of an allegory for his entire existence:  something cheap and temporary pretending to be something valuable and durable.

As if.

  2. what the hell? you don’t agree with the man, fine, but you wasted your own time to say that his existence is cheap and tempory? – seriously, there aren’t words…

  6. @J: Last I checked, it wasn’t a ‘waste of time’ to speak one’s mind. At least not in this country, where speech is still free. Would you care to prove me wrong by explaining how what LG said was a waste of time and how what you said was not? I thought not.

  7. @J, for those of us who read above a third grade level, said post was about a second and a half. Waste of time to write? Only if folks like you who, as was said earlier, have no dog in the hunt, feel the need to opine.
LG, as always, love you. You have just the right mix of erudite observation and prose worthy of a sailor. I can only say, I would love to be at the Thanksgiving table to see how conversation flows…..
On the Obama coins. I think that could be just the most delicious payback for those who made jell-o shots out of the kool-aid and glurged them down with abandon. I hope the credit card companies refuse to refund their money — they got exactly what they voted for.

  10. LG, I posted about this on Saturday, and I am *still* giggling everytime I think about the newslady saying: “I can see how they were so disappointed.” And the self-righteous news guy saying “What does Montel Williams think about this?”

Ahhh Ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!

    Good times….

  11. Another sucker and his money are soon parted.

Let’s get somebody to interview Montel Williams.

The dealer obviously ordered a shipment so he could resell them at a profit. Nothing wrong with that, just so long as he can find even bigger suckers.

Anybody with an ounce of sense (29 grams for you metric mavens) knows that the US mint does not strike coins of living Presidents.

Watch the video with a small amount of attention. About 1/3 of the way through, in bid bold print, it says “UNCIRCULATED WASHINGTON DOLLAR COINS”.

    Not “Obama coins”.

We learn from experience. Experience is the best teacher.

Good teachers charge you for their service.

They’ll just have to chalk it up to experience.

The perpetrators of this scam should also be prosecuted, for preying on the gullible.

  12. @jana: I live here in Portland and have met Steve Dunn, the ‘self-righteous news guy’, socially. He’s a really nice guy. And his question is valid. If I were Montel Williams I’d be concerned about the damage to my credibility and reputation being associated with that company.

Perhaps what I wrote didn’t come out like I meant it. I absolutely think Montel Williams should be called on the carpet for this. It’s not like he just signed his name to something, he filmed a television spot for these hucksters.

  16. @5kidsnadog: Well, you have to ask, how many of the donations to the Obama campaign were made via credit cards that now are being bailed out by the US Government?
