Over, um, Kill

The Nooz is funny this morning.

Dubai police appealed for an international manhunt Tuesday after releasing names and photos of an alleged 11-member hit squad accused of stalking and killing a Hamas commander last month in a plot that mixed cold precision with spy caper disguises such as fake beards and wigs.

Hamas has accused Israel’s Mossad secret service of masterminding the slaying and has vowed revenge.

Dubai’s police chief, Lt. Gen. Dahi Khalfan Tamim, did not directly implicate Israel at a news conference Monday to announce new details about al-Mabhouh’s death. But he noted the possibility that “leaders of certain countries gave orders to their intelligence agents to kill” al-Mabhouh, one of the founders of Hamas’ military wing.

Does it make anyone else LOL, this thought of the Mossad using 11 whole people to take out one Hamas dirtbag?

  1. Have you ever tried to follow someone without being noticed? Using a few people increases your chances of remaining undetected.

Say three or four to do the tail, shooter, spotter for the shooter, the commander, a small backup team of three or four in case things go bad, and a driver.

They weren’t taking out some random guy walking down the street- this was a Hamas leader, who I presume would have some sort of counter surveillance training, and perhaps some bodyguards.

  2. Indeed, not as simple as it once was (ruskie umbrella killah)…especially when they know they are a target.

But I do wonder just why Hamas thinks anyone will cooperate in the search? Do they have any friends – er – sane friends – left?

  3. There’s some counter-info out there indicating that various goofs during the operation (large numbers; being so visibly caught on camera; using false passports of Israeli citizens) might mean this was done by someone other than Mossad (the obvious suspect), possibly by rival Palestinian factions.

Not that Mossad can’t bollix up an op, but it does seem a bit sloppy.

Laura, the issue is not whether anyone will help support Hamas, but whether folks will jump on the bandwagon to condemn Israel for the killing.
